The heartbreak of a lost hairdresser

Two years ago, I quit going to the hair salon around the corner, where I'd been going for a decade, and switched to a spendier salon where a couple friends had gotten terrific haircuts and color. I've been procrastinating on calling for an appointment for a solid month now (why? why do I do that?), but referred a friend there. She went yesterday (and looks fabulous)—but relayed the news that I'd better get in there quickly because Stephane is moving to Fort Lauderdale in February! Oh noes! So I called right away. I will have one last Stephane cut next week, and then I don't know what I'll do. You know how you often find a few stray hairs of uneven length that you need to snip the day after your haircut? I never had that with Stephane. Perfectly even ends every time. (Sigh.)

At least Frank, my colorist, isn't leaving.

But who will cut my hair? I can't go back to the old shop. I have higher standards now, and I want the perfectly even ends that Stephane's kooky technique (I have to stand up twice during his hair-cutting process) ensures.

(Could I sound any more spoiled?)

Not spoiled. I found someone to cut my hair soon after I moved here and she's been the only one for me since - and that was 1992. Well, she did leave for a few months and I let someone else in that salon cut my hair, but I hated it. The next time she left I stopped getting my haircut. That did not go well, but I waited her out.

I don't know what I'd do if anything happened to Ron (who I've been going to since 1978).

My old hairdresser wigged out on me (hair...wig...Hah)...I mean, literally went crazy nuts, closed her salon, left town. I was completely lost until I remembered the OLD OLD place I used to go, and now Mary is my hairdresser extraordinaire...so maybe, just maybe, there is someone out there who you'll like as much as Stephane.

I'm thinking of becoming a Redhead...I'll have to check with Mary first....

I love the woman who cuts my hair. She's been doing it since, oh, about 1994, and she's great. Let me know if you want a referral.

I spent 1/2 hour last month desperately calling every salon in town, trying to track down my Hair Chick, who had thoughtlessly changed employers without telling me where she was going.

Not spoiled.

Can Stephane recommend anybody?

I'm sorry, I don't have anything to say about hairdressers. Mine moved across the street, striking out on her own, and reduced her prices. Yay me.

So there's this: now that I figured out how to push my own buttons, sex is less meaningful than before. Because my buttons aren't pushed, unless we take upwards of 40 minutes in the sack, which is far too much time at 10 at night after a long day with two kids, including a 2-year-old that wakes up a couple times a night. Is this the Age Old Problem? Also, the pushing of my own buttons is very private, and something I'm not ready to share with husband. Is this normal too? (Sorry for hijacking, just tried to call my BFF with this stuff, but she's gone.)
