Swimsuits for the buxom

My sister's got a pool, there are several beaches within three miles of home, and my old swimsuits are too big. (Thanks to weekly personal training sessions at the gym, precious little authentic cardio exercise, and nothing you might call a diet. Woot!)

It was with much trepidation that I entered Macy's to look for a swimsuit, obviously, because when is swimsuit shopping ever anything less than traumatic? (Plus: Eww, it's supposed to be Marshall Field's with nice green shopping bags, not Macy's with cheap, crappy, sub-Target plastic bags.)

And it was July 4th, so surely the selection would be meager. But I didn't need a swimsuit when it was April or May! I need one in July.

And I have boobs that most swimsuits aren't designed to support. Lands' End is famous for their wide selection of suits. You know what? They offer a handful of D-cup suits. What have they got for the DD-and-beyond cohort? Jack squat, that's what.

So I roved through the swimwear department at Macy's, copping feels left and right. Do these suits have underwires? Do these? How about these? Maybe those ones? (This is how I shop for a swimsuit. I molest the one-pieces and tankini tops.) Imagine my delight, then, to happen upon a rack of rack-friendly suits. There are a few brands of bra-sized swimsuits; the nicer ones I saw were by Coco Reef, with a smattering of band sizes in C, D, and DD cup sizes.

There weren't many items to choose from, but I found something that fit well enough. Here's the one I got, only (1) the model in that picture doesn't look like she needs a special bra-sized swimsuit, (2) the pieces were marked down 30%, and (3) I added an adorable little flirty skirt bottom. And apparently the Macy's website is down to only a few sizes, so I really lucked out finding my size at the store.

So, if you're in that underserved market of women who have biggish boobs but don't fall into the plus-size category and don't want to spill out of their swimsuit top, keep an eye out for bra-sized brands. And remember this tip for next spring when the new swimwear season kicks in.

It's good to know I'm not the only one molesting bathing suits. Macy's is where I finally found one to my liking that fit and supported my DDD self. And that didn't leave me feeling like I was going to pop out of the top.

I've taken to buying 2-piece suits with a tankini top so that I can get the right fit for my big behind and smaller (but not small) top! I've finally got a suit where the top gives sufficient support and coverage, and the bottom has a little skirty-overlay that hides my upper thighs and bikini line! Yay!

(by the way, I finally got to the States to a Trader Joe's (happily spent an hour in there just browsing all the lovely products I used to enjoy so much) and got my hands on the Blemish Touch Stick. Thanks for the tip! I'll use it for the next few days, and if I like it as much as you do, I'll buy a few more before I head back north of the border!

Oh, igloo, I should mention that the Blemish Touch Stick stings like crazy. A friend bought it on my recommendation, but I hadn't mentioned the part about it stinging like crazy. It's only for maybe 30 seconds, and it's bearable, but it's nutty all the same.

Not at all, Orange! I've been treating my acne with pure Tea Tree Oil for some time now, and although I find it stings a bit when I'm treating skin that is already irritated, when I'm just using it to keep things under control, I don't find that it stings at all! Besides which, call me masochistic, but I sometimes figure that if it hurts, it must be working!

Lurker, delurking. I had to add a comment to your cottage cheese guy post below. I actually eat cottage cheese that way all the time. A tub of fat free cottage cheese and a piece of fruit is my favorite summer lunch. I usually pick up a spoon from the deli section of the store. Yep I am weird, but it is packed with protein, nonfat and relatively low in calories and very satisfying. I can find a grocery store anywhere and it keeps me away from Micky D's, Taco Bell, etc.

Do you have any advice for the .. ahem, 36G/H gals?

Don't believe them when they tell you nursing won't change your breasts forever...
Although 4.5 continuous years (with different children) might have been too much for the girls to take.

A quick Google search turned up AmpleBosom.com, but that's in England and they might not be selling swimsuits this time of year.

You could always layer a sports bra underneath a swimsuit—although that presumes being able to find a sports bra in your size, and finding a suit that's roomy enough (if not supportive enough) on top without being baggy lower down. Hmm...
