For you naysayers

For those of who looked askance at my selection of Brad Pitt for a position on my freebie-lay list—who said either "He's merely good-looking" or, alternatively, "He doesn't do anything for me," check this out: Brad Pitt is now using his stardom to bring more attention to the issues of African poverty and disease. He's narrating six hour-long episodes of a PBS documentary, ""RX for Survival: A Global Health Challenge."

In other updates to the freebie list, I'm thinking of replacing Bill Clinton with Robert Downey Jr. Two reasons: Downey, who's 40 now, should look like Keith Richards after all his years of drugging, and yet...he's just plain hot. And when he was interviewed recently in Entertainment Weekly, the writer kept exclaiming about how smart and verbally adept Downey is. I will always love Bill Clinton as the bestest president ever, but he's looking a little too...statesmanlike, too elder-statesmanlike, these days.

So, to recap: Brad Pitt and George Clooney, for looks combined with political activism; Bruce Willis, with the lights off, for that yummy voice; Russell Wong, in the obligatory handsome-Asian position; and Robert Downey Jr., for getting better with age. Also, I understand there's a kissing scene in his new movie, "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang", and that kiss is between Downey and Val Kilmer. Delicious!

Ooh, I forgot all about RDJr! Definitely better than WJC for a freebie-lay list. As opposed to a Frito-Lay list. I don't know what I'm babbling about. But RDJr gets me all hot'n'bothered.

I've had the hots for Brad Pitt since his Thelma and Louise days, but during one period of severe insomnia, I watched all of the many many commentaries on the Fight Club DVD, and decided the man has enough of a brain and a sense of humor that I would definitely do him.

Can't stand Val Kilmer?! *gasp* Pray tell, why not? No wait -- don't tell me. You might ruin him, like finding out Beck is a Scientologist.

DoctorMama, thanks for the backup. Did you see "Mr. and Mrs. Smith"? That's one good-lookin' movie.

JT, I'm hoping Val Kilmer will go to the gym and get back in shape. Didn't you just love him to pieces in "Top Secret"?

Okay, as strange as this may sound, LLCoolJ is still on my list since he's still the same buff guy from the days of yore (and a mature voice, too).

Vin Diesel gets on my list but for the same reasons Bruce Willis is on your's: great voice but not too sure about the rest of him.

I loved Brad Pitt with the long hair thing from Troy (but did not like the movie itself because it was sooo historically inaccurate) but couldn't stand the blonde days. I want to see Mr. and Mrs. Smith and have been waiting for it to come out on video. We watched Thelma & Louise in our Women and the Law class last Monday and was reminded of Brad Pitt's place in it. He looked so young there! But really, that jaw and those eyes are what does it for me.

Tom Welling might also make that list since I go back and forth. Sometimes he looks mature and rugged, others quite boyish. Not into the latter of his identities though they make him look young since he's, like, 25 playing a 19 year old.

The guy who played Orlando in Diary of a Mad Black Woman could come and visit me anyday he wants, too. He's also on a current TV show that I can't think of right now but has no rows.

RDJ is a great choice, too, I just don't know if I want that whole drug addiction thing to visit me along with his physical body.

JT: At least Beck came by his scientology through no fault of his own--he was raised that way.

The Nut: I loved Brad Pitt with the long hair thing from Troy (but did not like the movie itself because it was sooo historically inaccurate)

As opposed to the original poem, which was a mastpiece of realism and historical scholarship?

Nut, you've seen "Legends of the Fall" and "A River Runs Through It," right? Brad Pitt's got long hair in one or both of those movies. To the eyes and jaw you mentioned, I must add his lips. And I hear you on LL Cool J—he ripped off his shirt and hiked down his jeans while performing on (of all places) the Today show last year, and hummina hummina! Tom Welling does have startling eyes. And the other guy you mentioned must be Shemar Moore—probably one of the few men Halle Berry has dated who are as pretty as she is.

jt, that was exactly how I felt about Beck too. Fortunately I didn't find out until after I'd already declared the Guero album to be very good indeed.

Rob, fair enough, but man. Scientology?? Couldn't it have been a religion, perhaps, that posits a virgin birth, a single and-yet-triune diety, and conflicting accounts of creation? You know, something believable...

Orange, this isn't fair because you have no idea who I am. I came from Maine's site because I still can't believe how funny you are. So, in the true spirit of your list, you top *my* freeby list, and I frankly don't care what you look like! Later!

back off Monty. her boobs became my homepage long before you were even a registered username.

But what I really wanted to say was:

Can't A Brother Get Some Love??????

Val went pudgy to play the father in Alexander. I saw an interview where he said losing the weight was harder than he ever thought it would be. Props go to Renee, Minnie, and Selma for making the transitions up and down the scale for work. I guess getting paid millions is a pretty good diet plan - and maybe Val likes being incognito for now? Naw, he's pretty vain.

Quirkly, I know, but I loved him in The Saint - he is studly with a good sense of humor.

But Monty, who else is on your list? Let's see, female comedians...Phyllis Diller?

TAN, you will become eligible for the freebie list when you are nationally famous. Give it a couple more years.

Cricket, the humor thing is key. Good-looking, smart, and funny? Somebody's pants are coming off!

yes, it is indeed Shemar Moore. Isn't he the prettiest? I loved him with the rows, too.

I forgot Brad Pitt had long hair in those other movies. I was too busy remembering how bad Troy was.

RHC - I happened to watch the movie bc my dad had rented in on PPV; I was interested to see how accurate 2 hours could really make it which wasn't very. And I must admit, what original poem? I'm thinking you were primarily being sarcastic, but I'm still wondering about this original poem thing. Refresh my memory please.

Oh Emma - me neither so I wasn't worried about limiting myself ;).

I think what bothers me about Brad and his philanthropical endeavors is that I'm sure they aren't just an attempt to win Angelina's hand in marriage. I guess that doesn't matter. Good works are being done, but at this point, he's way off my list. Like your others, though.

I can't believe I forgot about The Rock! (and I just saw him in Doom)

Just for the record, "can't a brother get some love" wasn't specifically regarding me (though I've marked the date and will surely be back in two years) ...but just getting a melanin-man on the list in general.

but I've since noticed LL and Shemar.

shout out to "The Nut" for keeping the bros on the radar.
