Moratorium on "LOL"

How often has anybody actually laughed out loud just before typing "LOL"? It's totally overused, and people may gravitate to its usage because it seems less sophomoric than typing an emoticon smiley. But there is an alternative! Yes, people of the blogosphere! I am here to offer you an alternative to the hyperbolic "LOL": SWGABNLOL. Try it. You'll like it.

No! I like LOL. Especially if you use it while chatting without the shift key: lol. So minimalist.

Smiling Wide, Grinning Away but Not Laughing Out Loud? Help out a sistah on the lower end of the IQ scale here.

I used to know someone who just typed: *L*. Which is, umm, kinda lame.

Smiling with genuine amusement, but not laughing out loud—which most often describes my degree of amusement when reading funny blogs. They've got to be really hilarious to get me to laugh out loud by myself.

Brilliant! I just might have to use that. If I can remember.

Instead of "LOL," my sister used to say FYFTP. Which meant, Fuck you and fuck this place. Considering that LOL often feels much the same as a pity laugh to me, FYFTP always seemed like an appropriate response.

I am a total troll. Watch and see. In a few weeks, you'll deblogroll me and ask me to never comment again, and we'll be able to trace it all the way back to my fondness for LOL.
