I hate that smoker

This summer, a couple moved into a condo in the building next to mine. She's a smoker. She doesn't want to stink up her home, so she goes out in the front yard or on the back porch to smoke. The breeze wafts that damned stink right into my house, and by the time it wafts to where one of us is sitting, it's too late to shut the window.

Cigarettes in general are stinky, but there are some brands (no idea which ones) that are less assertively rank. Alas, the neighbor prefers one of the nastier-smelling brands.

It's been a glorious summer, one in which we've not had to use the air conditioner much so the windows are open. But this smoker has me hankering for the return of cold weather, so I can seal the windows against her smoke.

This year, the state's indoor smoking ban took effect and bars and restaurants are blissfully smoke-free—but now I need to leave home and go to a bar if I want to avoid smoke!

Maybe I'll leave a Chantix brochure and a pack of Nicorette on her back porch.

Thank you for letting me rant.

Our neighbor uses some sort of dryer sheet that smells like an Alpine meadow gone very, very wrong. Her dryer vent faces our house and when the wind is right, that smell blows into my dining room. Ick.

Thank god for smoking bans. Unfortunately there are still a few parts of the country that don't have one....yet.

Arrrghhhh I hate that! My mother in law lives with us, and she's a smoker. We don't let her smoke in the house, so she goes out on our back porch. And then, so she doesn't miss out on the conversation inside, she sits RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE SCREEN DOOR. Umm... HELLO? The smoke blows right in the house. And it's not only that, the smell clings to her, so even when she closes the doors properly, she still brings it in with her. Ick.

Hey, nifty blog. Enjoyed reading some of the recent posts. Um...I wish people practiced some smoking etiquette all over the world. My ex-boss had this habit of inviting his entire team (including non-smokers) for the smoke breaks. Sometimes, he would even discuss work during those breaks and hence make it necessary for non-smokers to join.

My next door neighbor does the same thing...that menopausal crank. She gets pissy if my kids are a little noisy in the yard, but ohhhh she can go back there and smoke. Our sliding glass doors and patios are within ten feet of each other separated by a fence! If she went to her front porch I wouldn't have it wafting through my house.

Maybe I should tell her that her daughter has been coming to her house during the day, while she's gone, and using her house to sleep with a man who is not her husband.

our upstairs neighbor complained about our smoking so we bought an air filter and all problems were solved. you'd never know there were smokers in the place.

I'm an ex-smoker and am absolutely disgusted by the smell of it now.

I was always a considerate smoker (wouldn't even smoke in my own car if a non-smoker was riding with me!) but now that I'm removed from it, I can't believe I did that to other people for so long!

I issue a grand apology into the universe for all the stinkies I put out there during my smoking years.

I've also added you to my Blog Love List!

Get one of those adjustable stand fans, stick it near the window or on the deck, and point it back down at her. Then when she starts up, turn it on and blow the stuff right back at her.

This is a pet hate of mine too. When we lived in a townhouse we had a neighbor who sat outside his place in their garden to smoke and it wafted straight up into our bedroom. A beautiful summer evening with a lovely light breeze and as soon as he went outside to enjoy it we'd have to shut our place up and run a wasteful airconditioner instead.
